Tinian Harbor and Breakwater Evaluation

Tinian Harbor is located on the southwest coast of the island of Tinian in the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands. The primary purpose of this study is to assess the existing condition of the harbor and the possible need for harbor modifications and improvements. Study tasks included:

  • Assessment of the existing breakwater condition and its effectiveness
  • Analysis of wave conditions to be used to evaluate improvement alternatives
  • Harbor wave numerical model studies
  • Harbor breakwater conceptual design
  • Evaluation of maintenance dredging requirements

The numerical model studies evaluated the effects on waves and currents inside the harbor of the following modifications: breakwater improvements, consideration of a second entrance channel for small craft, dredging, and pier modification alternatives.
