Kwajalein Coral Relocation

Sea Engineering, Inc. was contracted by Kwajalein Range Services LLC, to perform underwater relocation of coral colonies and non-coral macro invertebrates. The project consisted of a six man dive team, which included a diving supervisor, marine biologist, and engineer divers.

The dive team successfully removed and relocated 700 coral colonies and non-coral invertebrates to nearby habitats having similar species composition and environmental conditions. Divers used small hand tools and hand collection methods to remove corals from the barge slip ramp and inner harbor substrate area. Collected corals and non-coral invertebrates were transported in bins and cargo nets to pre-determined sites where they were carefully placed and re-attached to the seafloor.

The project was contracted and completed within 2 weeks time to avoid delays with the ramp construction project.
