Fortman Marina Inspection and Hydrographic Survey

To provide a record of the existing condition of Fortman Marina for the potential purpose of a lease renewal with the City and County of Alameda, Groom and Cave LLP contracted Sea Engineering, Inc.  Fortman Marina is situated along the Oakland estuary, opposite of the Coast Guard Island in Alameda, and is comprised of shoreline structures including:

  • A perimeter seawall
  • Bulkhead
  • Natural shoreline
  • Pile supported structures including a timber fishing pier
  • A small timber observation platform
  • Aluminum and timber gangway platforms
  • The main deck
  • Promenade
  • Covered and uncovered timber floating docks
  • Concrete floating docks, supported by timber or steel guide piles

Sea Engineering completed an above water visual inspection of marina structures including shoreline structures, pile-supported structures, gangways, as well as floating docks and associated piles.  A single beam hydrographic survey included the general berthing area and limited extents of the bordering waterways.  A cursory review was made of the marina electrical and domestic & fire water supply systems.

Sea Engineering provided Groom & Cave with a condition assessment report following the inspection that included a description of the structures inspected, observed conditions from the inspection, a cursory review of the marina utility systems, discussions of dredging and permitting, as well as a prioritized summary of recommended actions along with an order of magnitude Opinions of Probable Costs.  Photographs taken during the inspection and figures showing existing site bathymetry (water depths) were included as appendices to the report.
