Tinian Side Scan Sonar and Magnetometer Surveys

In support of the preparation of the Environmental Impact Statement for the development of an amphibious vehicles training facility for the U.S. Marine Corps on the island of Tinian, Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, Sea Engineering, Inc. was contracted to conduct surveys of the nearshore area out to 20-meters water depth:

  • Side scan sonar
  • Magnetometer surveys

The objective of the survey operations was to identify potential unexploded ordnance (UXO), cultural, or archeological resources within the survey areas.   The results of the surveys found several features of interest, which were then visually inspected by scuba divers.
