Mala Boat Ramp Maintenance Dredging
The State of Hawaii Department of Land and Natural Resources – Division of Boating and Ocean Recreation (DOBOR) has successfully completed the Mala Boat Ramp Maintenance Dredging project, with Sea Engineering serving as the lead consultant.
Last dredged in 2017, the ramp and its adjacent basin had experienced significant sediment buildup over the years. This accumulation created hazardous conditions for boat launching and recovery. As the only boat ramp in West Maui, Mala plays a critical role not only for recreational boaters, but also for emergency responders who rely on safe and dependable access to the ocean.
Sea Engineering’s scope of work for the project included:
Conducting a hydrographic survey and site assessment
Developing project design, specifications, and permitting
Providing bid phase support
Overseeing construction activities
Through these efforts, a total of 1,850 cubic yards of material were dredged, restoring safe, reliable access to the facility. Dredge operations were completed on April 25, 2025.
Sea Engineering is proud to have supported DOBOR in maintaining this vital piece of infrastructure for the West Maui community.
